The traditional leadership rules aren’t written for you. Break the mold and step into your path as an authentic, justice-centered leader.
For aspiring leaders

All proceeds go towards SJPLA’s work to advance racial and social justice in Los Angeles.
Liberatory leadership challenges oppressive workplace norms and empowers others allowing them to thrive.
Shake off the traditional leadership path and ground yourself in your authentic, liberatory leadership style.
Traditional leadership avatars are rooted in white supremacist, patriarchal norms that exclude BIPOC staff from leadership roles and create stifling workplaces. An equitable organization requires leaders who are outside of the traditional mold and can lead in a different way.
If you are an aspiring leader, this course will help you skill up and strengthen your ability to show up as an anti-racist, liberatory leader.
We support participants in building their liberatory leadership skills by:
Examining traditional leadership, white supremacist work culture, and how we have internalized those messages.
Finding and feeling grounded in your own authentic leadership genius.
Countering white supremacist culture and building your anti-racist, equitable leader muscles.
How to move from the singular leadership style to collective leadership.
How to strengthen your ability to work with people who think differently from you.
Detaching your identity from your work
Finding your supportive community.
How it works
This is a participatory course where you will be expected to interact with other participants and the facilitator. When at all possible, please have your cameras on and be available to answer questions and join in conversation.
Participants will meet once a week for four weeks on Zoom. Facilitator Kelli Poole will lead an exploration of that week’s curriculum for the first hour, and participants can stay for a question-and-answer discussion in the last half hour.
Class size is limited to 30 participants.
